Super Sunday at the Mitcham & Carshalton Development Festival

The U9/10s

The U9/10 squad played well at the Mitcham & Carshalton Development Festival last week.
With 15 players turning up, it was our best ever showing for an away fixture this season, so many thanks goes out to the parents and players alike. Our philosophy for the day was to ensure that all players got game time. Whilst there was a desire amongst the players to only focus on the result and go for the win, the coaches’ objective of allowing every player to take part and enjoy the occasion was more important.
Our first match against Battersea Ironside was a closely contested affair and ended in a narrow loss 4 tries to 3.
Our second match against Mitcham was a two all draw. In the final match we played Old Whitgiftians u9 side and we had to play u9 rules. This bemused the players and the coaches alike but they entered the spirit even though Whitgiftians did win the match 5 tries to 2.

Highlights of the day other than the exemplary behaviour of the players:
• Ciaran’s try saving tackle was Jamie Heaslipesque in its execution
• Sam’s strong running was Robbie Henshawesque in his directness
• Ben’s and Diran’s side step and turn of pace were Jonathan Josephesque
• James’ offloads in the tackle were George Fordesque. His no-look pass is almost perfected
• Tackles by Abi B, Abi M, Fabian, Joseph C, Marley, Maciej, Patrick, Aidan, Ffion and Daniel would have put the English defensive line to shame. Our players would never have conceded 35 points against the French!!
