Match Report by Gary Allen, U9 Coach
Last Sunday the Under 9s travelled to Warlingham Rugby Club for an early season festival. This was their first full contact festival and all of them stepped up and put everything that they had learnt into action. During the festival they played six matches against Sevenoaks, Warlingham, Reigate, Chipstead, Beccehamians and Old Alleynians.
The tackles came hard and fast with every single one of them putting their bodies on the line. The passing was crisp especially the pop passes from the floor that opposition coaches complimented again and again. The running lines were very strong and positive. The team pulled together throughout the festival and this was typified in the last match where their never say die attitude kept the opposition from crossing the line, before turning defence into attack.
At the end of the day we did not win, BUT everyone had fun and one of the Warlingham coaches said that he was very impressed by how much fun our team had and by the smiles that were permanently on their faces.
As a coach two words sum up their performance, PRIDE and PASSION. With the skills and determination that they team showed things are looking bright for the Under 9s.
Thanks must also be made to the parents and supporters that came along and made the day a very memorable foray into the world of contact rugby festivals.
