Report by Duncan Gallon
The U9 squad, ably assisted by 3 U10s in Lenny, Griff and Noah, put on a fine display in their first competitive games since moving up to contact rugby this year. They started strongly, beating Trinity 6 tries to 3. The team displayed strong running, good tackling and excellent support play throughout. Griff, Lenny and Matthew notched up the tries between them. We then faced a strong Old Ruts side who put us to the sword in the first half and Streatham-Croydon went into half time 5-0 down. The team rallied in the second half, with some particularly strong running from Mathias and it was a much more even encounter. The game was eventually lost 7-1, Lenny with the try. The final match was against Sutton and Epsom and was close throughout. With much good defence from both teams, tries were at a premium. The team were unlucky to lose 3-1 having put in another excellent performance, Griff with the try.
Whilst not everyone got on the scoresheet, all the players contributed and it was very pleasing to see them demonstrating the core values we ask of them. Thanks to all the parents for their unstinting support and enthusiasm and to the players for their hard work and good behaviour.
