A start of season festival, what were the coaches thinking..? The first challenge of the morning was only having 4 players, two short of the required number. However, George stepped up from the u7 group to help. Thanks to both Warlingham and Old Cats who loaned us players for our games.
The u8 team wasted no time in getting stuck in, producing a dazzling display of tag rugby. The try scoring was outstanding, the passing precise and the defence demonstrated huge improvement. Each and every player produced a display they can be proud of. But it wasn’t just the individual efforts of sizzling runs and diving to make a tag, it was their collective spirit and team work ethos that really shone through.
After each game both the referee and also the coaches of the opposition commented on the quality of the play.
In the league stage the team played 3 games (Old Cats, Sevenoaks & Warlingham), winning 2 and just losing 1. They finished second and were the very proud recipients of the trophy.
It wasn’t over, there was an opportunity to play a friendly against Reigate. If there was ever a game to end the festival this was it. Non-stop action, tagging, try scoring - it had it all. The referee of the game said that it was the best game of tag he had seen at the festival.
Was there a club player of the festival… yes all five: Clark, George, Horace, Magnus & Sam.
