Streatham miss out on an away victory by 2 points in a narrow away defeat.

When Canterbury came to Frant Road, the ladies unfortunately lost a narrow game and felt that they didn't put out their best performance. With only a few points separating the two teams at 3rd and 4th in the league, Streatham were keen to hold onto their higher spot in the table. The game started at pace, and Streatham had the wind behind them putting pressure on Canterbury. Through chaotic attack, fly half Millie Ross took the ball to the line and fixing the last defender was able to pop it to winger and try magnet Amy 'Baby Rhino' Allen who powered through the covering defence to dot down in the corner. Unfortunately the distance meant that this went unconverted.

The game was a tough one of to and fro. The ball went to ground a lot and whilst Streatham were dominating the scrums and comfortable in the lineouts, there was a lot of stoppage and the backs were unable to penetrate the defence. By half time the score was still 0-5 to the visitors.

Early in the second half Streatham had a penalty in front of the posts, albeit from some distance. Into the wind, sadly Ana O'Connor's kick didn't quite have the legs, but fortunately it was knocked on by Canterbury in front of the posts. From the scrum Amy Allen was inches from the try line, but the subsequent forwards pick and go was penalised for crossing and Canterbury were able to breathe easy as they exited.

After 65 minutes played, sadly Canterbury received a penalty kick that didn't make touch and the full back was able to dance around the defence and score close enough to the posts to secure the conversion. Despite a rallied final ten minutes, Streatham weren't able to close the game and the final score was 7-5 to the hosts.

In securing the losing bonus and denying Canterbury the try bonus, Streatham remain 3rd in the table and above Canterbury by one point. They will hope to defend this spot as they visit Southampton on Saturday in their final league game of the season.
