Great training session last weekend against the Southwark Tigers. All of the drills were met with great enthusiasm and commitment focusing on the ruck in particular both offensively and defensively. It wasn’t long before all players were clearly recognising the merits of body position and the necessity to compete at the breakdown............
That was until the competitive full contact began, at which point Southwark displayed their greater understanding of a rush defence. It was a great lesson in pressure, and after the initial ‘onslaught’ SCRFC U10’s rapidly began to compete well at the breakdown, especially in their understanding of the Maul. In the end the score line was not a reflection of their ability to compete in this area (I lost count to be honest!) but in our defence, as that seemed to have gone on holiday, mostly due to the shock of Southwark’s greater physicality.
As ever, always proud of our players and more work required on the ‘live’ tackle and aggressive defending. Noah received our man of the match as at the breakdown he was nothing short of rabid and hungry, a great example to us all.
