The Surrey Waterfall Cup Finals day marks the end of the juniors’ rugby season and is a celebration of the teams’ efforts. The boys’ u14 Treasurers Cup final was supposed to be against Whit-Stead – a combined Old Whits and Chipstead side. However with the finals day scheduled for the first weekend of the Easter Holiday, they were unable to field enough players and the boys had a walk-over.
So Surrey Rugby organised an invitational game against Sutton & Epsom RFC Bs. A reduced player format and uncontested scrums were agreed upon to allow the players on both side to have a ‘run out’.
The young men set out to finish the season on a high and they did not disappoint, scoring 10 unanswered tries before Sutton crossed the whitewash for their well-deserved try.
A great team effort by the boys in which they demonstrated good offloading and decision making skills. The physicality and speed across the whole team put their opponents under pressure throughout the game and a fantastic defensive performance prevented them scoring until the last minute of the game.
Next season, this team will be a force to be reckoned with in Surrey Tournaments. Well done Chaps.
