Today proved to be a tough day at the office for Streatham. Availability of players again hampered selection and there were at least 4 players who had not been at the club for more than 2 weeks. Things were made worse when our opposition turned up without a front row meaning that the game started with uncontested scrums and Streatham were left without one of their greatest strengths.
In short the game was a one sided affair with Streatham unable to get their game and structures going, and spending log periods of time defending against an opposition that were noticeably fitter and younger than Streatham were. In reality whilst the day was painful experience, when Streatham come up against Georgians again in the league there will certainly be a different result.
The game ended badly with star player, scrum half Russell Moorcock unfortunately breaking ribs and now facing 6 to 10 weeks out injured.
However there were some plus sides to Streatham game, most notably new club member Theo White's performance offers an exciting prospect, and his try and the end of the game was just deserves for all his endeavours during the game. Jason Edwardes also put in a performance that has enhanced his chances of being selected.
The end result of the performance is there are things to be worked on and the requirements on the players to improve certain areas of their game is high. Next weekend provides the final challenge for players to stake their claim for a place in the starting line up for the first league game on the 27th September, the same day as the club dinner.
