A friendly trip into the countryside to take on Old Walcoutians, gave Streatham an opportunity to have a look at a few options before the brutality of the next few weeks when they take on the top of the table. Streatham started well and it was evident early on if they team get get things to click then there was the possibility of a big score.
After a number of dropped balls close to the opposition line Streatham allowed OW's to break clear and then after a couple of penalties close to the SC line, OW's final crossed for a time to open the scoring.
Streatham started to settle down and a barnstorming run by Opeyemi Odelusi ended just short of the line where a quick recycle allowed Ben Alsop for his first try of the season. And then the wheels looked like they were about to come off as Old Walcountians then scored two converted tries in quick succession.
And then Streatham finally started to work on their basic execution. First a great break from the base of the scrum resulted in Cassemis scoring and then just before the end of the half, another break from a scrum saw Jonny Korcz score under the posts to make the half time score 21 -17.
After a team talk where the team were asked to focus on executing the basics and boy did they respond. In a twenty minute period Elvin Grant and Pierre Aghabala both scored two tries, Vincent Auguiste and Martin Hindshaw both scored a try a piece. The second half was a great example of the ability of the team when the settle their nerves and play with the passion and determination that they are capable of.
Man of the Match went to Jonny Korcz.
