Streatham keep on rolling

1st XV still unbeaten

Streatham continued their impressive start to the season with what ended up being a comprehensive victory. However Old Glynonians were very competitive for most of this match and their aggressive defence caused the Frant Road outfit some problems particularly in the first half. Once the home side worked out that quick ball moved wide would develop good scoring opportunities that they were able to fully take control of the game.

Streatham started strongly with several phases of quick ball putting winger Auguiste into space to beat two men and touch down with an excellent conversion from Harry Peddle making it 7-0. Glyn's excellent defence was then able to nullify Streatham's attempts to add to the score for much of the first half and it was only after 30 minutes that centre Williams was able to make a break from deep inside his own 22 form turnover ball to put Harry Peddle over for a score which he converted himself. Glyn pressed the Streatham defence from the restart and following a lineout offence the referee decided skipper Jack Peddle should take a ten minute rest. The Frant Road sides defence however help firm to make the score at half time 12-0. At half time Coaches Bob Dickinson and Trevor Young encourage Streatham to utilise more width in their game plan.

The second half saw a series of excellent scores from the home side featuring some fantastic back play and clever and precise passing with Streatham choosing to run the ball at every opportunity first Harvey Young adding another 7 pointer and before winger Grant was able to impose himself on the match with a long distance score. The replacement Full Back Tim Parry went over following a flowing inter-passing move converted by Harry Peddle who then added a further 5 points before Grant was worked into space on two occasions to add a further two scores making it 50-0 at full time.

Streatham now face a series of matches that will define their season in the run up to Christmas starting with a difficult away match to third place Bec Old Boys next Saturday in Tooting.
