Hard fought win against London Media

Streatham's final home game of 2015 was a tough encounter against London Media who are always a difficult side to beat. On a bitterly cold day at Frant Road a close encounter was expected.

Streatham started the game strongly and an early break in midfield by Ed Williams put winger Dave Langmead in space to open the scoring under the posts with the extra two points added by skipper Cassemis. Streatham continued to dominate proceedings but were guilty of several handling errors and missed opportunities and it wasn't until a series of drives by the forwards resulted in Scrum Half Markevics going over to make the Half time score 12-0.

Media were not about to give up however and with Vice Skipper Jack Peddle spending 10 minutes in the sin bin turnover ball saw the Streatham defence go missing to enable an easy score 12-7. Media continued to press but some excellent work by the Front row of Johnes, Allsop and Parker in their own 22 saw a ball taken against the head by the 7 man Streatham scrum and a sweeping handling move saw replacement full back Tim Perry go over. Media again responded and managed to pull 7 points back with 10 minutes remaining. Strets have shown great character and determination this season and managed to play their best rugby in the last few minutes with the accuracy that had been missing earlier in the game enabling scores for Cassemis and Langmead to make the final score 27-14. With Leaders Reeds Weybridge failing to get a bonus point the win puts the Thornton Heath side at the top of the League on points difference but they will have to reduce the error count if they want to maintain their position in the critical run up To Christmas. Next week they travel to Ilford in Essex for the next round of the Junior Vase.

On a good day for the senior men's teams the Scorpions won away at Cranleigh 36-32 to stay on top of their league and 'Abduls Army' the 3rd XV staged a fantastic comeback to beat Battersea Ironsides 22-17 having been 17-0 down.
