Streatham entertained Old Rutlishians in a hard fought encounter at Frant Road. Ruts determined defence and numerous mistakes by the home side ensured that Streatham were never able to establish their high tempo game.
From the kick off the home side were able to a launch as series of strong drives but the last pass failed to go to hand on several occasions and a foray into the Strets 22 combined with several missed tackles saw Old ruts take the lead 5-0. Streatham responded and some heavy forward drives resulted in Mike Parker crashing over to level the scores. The home side now seemed to take control of the match but again some basic errors stopped them establishing their control on the scoreboard and it was only when a series of catch and drives from the lineouts gained significant ground that Jordan Bradley was driven over to take the lead 10-5
The second half began in a similar vein but a mistake again allowed Ruts to breakout and some fine play by their backs resulted in another score well converted from out wide to make the score 10-12. The last 30 minutes of the match saw constant Streatham pressure but little in the way of scoreboard action until finally centre Harry Clarke was able to power through several tacklers to take the lead again for the home side. The pressure was not telling on Old Ruts who had two men yellow carded with 7 minutes to go and the pressure allowed Josh Smith to crash over for the bonus point score. Coaches Bob Dickinson and Trevor Young emphasised after the match for the players to maintain to and execute well the game plan but with Old Glynonians beating Reeds Weybridge the Thornton Heath side are not top of the table on points difference although they will be wary of the next League encounter against the same opponents in two weeks time.
