In a hard fought match at Frant Road Streatham lost only their second League game of the season. The match was a very close affair with both sides having opportunities to win in a fixture that saw defence's dominate.
Streatham dominated the first halt with 80% of the possession but resolute defence, particularly by the Bec backline, meant that they were unable to take advantage of their dominance. The Strets scrum, with Max Thomason playing his first senior game of the season had the edge and produced plenty of possession but on several occasions the Thornton Heath side failed to utilise numerical advantages out wide. The result was a scoreless first half.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first when centre Harry Clarke made a great break through the middle only for the last pass to go to a Bec hand and worse was to follow for Streatham as following a penalty awarded at a scrum Bec were able to run the free kick and score under the posts for a 7-0 lead. Streatham responded strongly and a series of powerful drives with No 8 Josh Smith to the fore, saw Ed Williams kick a penalty to make it 3-7. From the restart Strets piled on load of pressure in the Bec 22 but an interception saw the Tooting side stretch their lead to 12-3. Once again the home side responded and another series of forward drives created space wide on the left for Elvin Grant to score 8-12. With ten minutes still to play Streatham put continual pressure on the Bec line but were unable to force the winning score.
The loss leaves the top of Surrey League 3 a very tight affair with 4 points separating the top three and with two sides getting promoted. Streatham remain in second place and know that wins in the three remaining fixtures will result in a move up the League ladder.
The Scorpions maintained their lead in The Surrey Reserve league with a wind away at Racal Decca whilst the third team took the league points with Old Cats crying off.
