Streatham travelled optimistically to Kingston for their first competitive match of the season following several intense and competitive training sessions in the last two weeks. With a number of new players in the senior men's squad the coaching staff had to make some tough selection calls which resulted in a new look back division.

The Thornton Heath side started strongly playing at a high tempo and several forward drives gave winger Liam Gallagher some space to beat two men and go over for the first score. At the restart again Streatham build pressure and new winger Brian Coughtrie was put through a gap in the Kingston defence to go over with debutant centre Lewis Weston adding the conversion to make it 12-0. Kingston however responded strongly, aided by several unnecessary Streatham penalty infringements correctly awarded by referee Sean Wickes, to score a penalty before putting their winger over in the corner to make the score 8-12 at halftime.

From the restart Stret's dominated and spent most of the half inside the Kingston 22 but were unable to fashion a score despite numerous close attempts and it was almost with a sense of inevitability that Kingston broke the siege with two minutes remaining to score at the death and make the result 15-12 in their favour.

Streatham, although disappointed to lose, will take heart that Kingston were competitive in Surrey One last season and will know they have great potential to improve. With the 2nd XV recording a fantastic 45-12 win over Dorking there will be strong competition for places for the visit of Economicals to Frant Road next Saturday
