New Year blues for Strets after losing the first game in 2020.

After losing to London Media earlier in the season, the Streatham team were motivated to avenge this defeat at Fortress Frant on the first weekend after the holiday break. With a strong team put out, the boys were confident in matching the physicality of the London Media team, whilst employing their own system of play.

Things did not go to plan shortly after the game began, with London Media producing a rolling maul from an attacking lineout despite admirable efforts from James Beynon in sacking it. The maul rumbled over, and with the conversion Strets were down 7-0 early on.

Although the pod system, and the return of HP at 10, gave Streatham-Croydon impetus and drive, London Media's fast and aggressive start led them to score again, this time in front of the posts.

After superb hands from the backline, Ibby managed to create space out wide, beating his man. After being tackled, it looked like the chance was over, but a cracking support line from Angus Mainland enabled him to pick it up and score under the posts. Harry Peddle converted with ease.

Another couple of tries to Media prevented the momentum swinging our way however, after good hands and offloads from the opposition created chances out of nothing.

With thoughts of an unfancied win starting to drift away, Ibby again managed to get the ball out wide and used his wheels to beat the defense again, this time scoring himself out wide for his first try of the season. HP sauce slotted a beauty from the touchline to give supporters faint hopes of stirring a comeback.

Unfortunately, if anything this spurred on the opposition, who ensured that every opportunity they were given was taken, running in a couple more tries to finish the game 14-44.

All eyes turn to next weekend, when an angry Strets take on Old Glynonians away from home.
