This weekend saw Streatham take away league leaders Old Georgians in a bid to get their season back on track. Coming into the game off the back of two frustrating losses the game was always going to be challenging. And to be fair the game was really a battle of a side full of confidence and a side looking to find some.
Having said that training during the week had been focused on simplifying what the players were doing in a bit of back to basics work. And boy did it pay off. The team responded admirably and defended like a pack of wild gorillas fending away any attempts by OG's to get near the line.
Notably Streatham went into the half time break three - nil down, having been held up just short of the line twice. And then just into the half a moment of brilliant individual skill by Opeyemi Odelusi saw him take a quick tap on the half way line break 4 tackles before scoring in the corner. The conversion missed, the game swung in the balance and OG's started to stutter.
However Streatham just couldn't stop giving away penalties and ended up back on their own try line which they defended bravely before OG's finally managed to get the ball open for one of their players to crash over the line. Streatham responded with gusto only to have another try disallowed, ruled somewhat debatably, as held up over the line. From the resulting scrum, Streatham just ran out of steam and with Ben Alsop once again being penalised, Old Georgians slotted a penalty to take away the losing bonus point from Streatham.
Whilst it once again felt like any opportunity lost, the players felt that they had final given a true account of themselves and had they come into the game off the back of three wins like Old Georgians then the result could have been very different. Streatham now have to roll up their sleeves once again to take on the latest league leaders Worth Old Boys on the 1st November at Home.
